By learning how to consciously stretch actively, passively or against resistance, you with discover how much you can deepen your practice and get further into postures, safely. For very mobile students, we will look at how to target tighter muscles without overstretching very open ones. We will also look into skeletal differences, as even with a dedicated practice and the best possible technique, not all postures will look the same on all bodies.
Based on her own experience of having to ‘relearn’ how to stretch after a hamstring injury, and on further anatomy training with teachers including: Stuart Girling, Karen Kirkness, Carol Murphy and David Keil, Eleanor will guide you through this workshop and break down different stretching techniques.
ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
- We will start with a short lecture and discussion of the different stretching techniques and find out what we are all familiar with.
- Then we move into a more dynamic practice, with chances to work on certain postures. We will learn how to deepen these postures using active stretching and a technique called ‘PNF stretching‘.
- We will end this workshop with a deep yin practice to experience passive stretching using the support of props and the yin-yogi’s best tool – our own body weight.
